Konstantinos Meramveliotakis is a visual artist, a printmaker and an art educator. He grew up in Athens, Greece and studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts. During an Erasmus program at the University of Barcelona he was introduced to the art of lithography. He lived for 11 years in Canada where he did postgraduate studies in education at the University of Montreal and also completed an MFA degree in printmaking at Concordia University.

He worked at the printmaking workshops Atelier Circulaire and Graff in Montreal with the techniques of copper engraving, relief and lithography. There he came into contact with printmakers from all over the world with whom he collaborated to create group works that were exhibited at the 2014 Art Souterrain Festival in Montreal and in the parallel exhibitions section of the National Biennale of Contemporary Sculpture in Trois-Rivières in 2016. As part of his MFA in printmaking, he studied for a semester at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, where he collaborated with Tamarind Institute students to create lithographs.

His artwork mainly uses lithography and other printmaking techniques to examine the ideas of identity, nature and artificiality. His work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Canada, Greece, the United States and Romania, and is in private and public collections such as the National Library and Archives of Quebec (BAnQ), the Gabrielle-Roy Library in Quebec and the archives of the Southern Graphics Council International at the Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum. He has been awarded grants from The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, the Hellenic Scholarships Foundation and Concordia University.

He has taught drawing, painting and printmaking in Canada and Greece at all levels of education, in public and private institutions, to people of all ages. He has also taught Greek in community schools for expatriates in Canada.

Since 2020, he lives in Greece. He uses visual arts to teach elementary school children the art of collaboration and that of free, creative expression.

Βιογραφικό

Ο Κωνσταντίνος Μεραμβελιωτάκης μεγάλωσε στην Αθήνα και σπούδασε ζωγραφική στην Ανωτάτη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών. Κατά τη διάρκεια προγράμματος Erasmus στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Βαρκελώνης μυήθηκε στην τέχνη της λιθογραφίας. Έζησε για 11 χρόνια στον Καναδά όπου έκανε μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στα παιδαγωγικά  στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Μόντρεαλ και επίσης ολοκλήρωσε μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στη χαρακτική στο Πανεπιστήμιο Concordia. 

Εργάστηκε στα εργαστήρια χαρακτικής Atelier Circulaire και Graff στο Μόντρεαλ με τις τεχνικές της χαλκογραφίας, της υψιτυπίας και της λιθογραφίας. Εκεί ήρθε σε επαφή με χαράκτες από όλο τον κόσμο με τους οποίους συνεργάστηκε για τη δημιουργία ομαδικών έργων που εκτέθηκαν στο Φεστιβαλ  Art Souterrain 2014 στο Μόντρεαλ και  στο τμήμα παράλληλων εκθέσεων της Εθνικής Μπιενάλε Σύγχρονης Γλυπτικής στο Trois-Rivières το 2016. Στα πλαίσια του μεταπτυχιακού του στη χαρακτική, σπούδασε για ένα εξάμηνο στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Νέου Μεξικού στο Αλμπουκέρκι, όπου συνεργάστηκε με φοιτητές του Ινστιτούτου Tamarind για τη δημιουργία έργων λιθογραφίας.

Το εικαστικό του έργο χρησιμοποιεί κυρίως τη λιθογραφία και άλλες τεχνικές της χαρακτικής και εξετάζει τις ιδέες του φυσικού και του τεχνητού, του σώματος και της ταυτότητας. Το έργο του έχει παρουσιαστεί σε ατομικές και ομαδικές εκθέσεις στον Καναδά, την Ελλάδα, τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και την Ρουμανία, και  βρίσκεται σε ιδιωτικές και δημόσιες συλλογές, όπως της Εθνικής Βιβλιοθήκης και Αρχείων του Κεμπέκ (BAnQ), της Βιβλιοθήκης Gabrielle-Roy στο Κεμπέκ και των αρχείων του Southern Graphics Council International  στο μουσείο Bernard A. Zuckerman. Έχει βραβευτεί με επιχορηγήσεις από το ίδρυμα The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, το ίδρυμα Hellenic Scholarships Foundation και το Πανεπιστήμιο Concordia.

Έχει διδάξει σχέδιο, ζωγραφική και χαρακτική στον Καναδά και στην Ελλάδα σε όλες τις βαθμίδες εκπαίδευσης, σε δημόσια και ιδιωτικά ιδρύματα, σε ανθρώπους κάθε ηλικίας. Επίσης, έχει διδάξει ελληνικά στα κοινοτικά σχολεία των ομογενών του Καναδά.

Από το 2020 μένει στην Ελλάδα. Εργάζεται ως δάσκαλος σε δημόσια δημοτικά σχολεία και μέσω των εικαστικών διδάσκει στα παιδιά τη συνεργασία και την ελεύθερη, δημιουργική έκφραση.
